A Note from the Editors

Society today is flooded with media and driven by consumer culture — the urge to consume constantly in pursuit of a quick hit. We have everything at our fingertips: knowledge, food, entertainment, all seconds away. In another time, you needed something most people no longer have: patience. If you wanted something, you waited for its release. You could not order it to your door in two hours or download it to a device. You worked and saved for it, which made the purchase matter. Now, credit and instant availability let you buy anything regardless of quality — because there is always another option, and another after that.

And when you sat down to read, you held a thing in your hands. You were not staring at a screen. You encountered literature or art in person, not through the internet. Writing used to be understood as an art. Now anyone can publish across the internet and call themselves a writer. It used to mean something to appear in a magazine or a literary digest. Now your name sits next to another’s with no weight, no context, no curation.

That is what The Memorious is trying to do. We want to be a beacon in a sea of careless writing — a shore where readers who still want something real can go.
